Hunter Henderson won the National Guard Youth of the Year award for 2013 for her extraordinary contributions as a volunteer at Rosecrans Air National Guard Base and in the greater surrounding areas of St. Joseph, Mo.

Approximately 40 youth from around the country were recognized by the different service branches throughout the country during a ceremony in San Antonio on July 18, 2013.

Henderson volunteers at Rosecrans whenever she gets the chance. She was at this year's Family Day as a car show registrar and food server. She is also an active volunteer with United Way and the Special Olympics. At school, she participates in basketball, softball, track, National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America and Student Council

With just one year of high school left to complete, Henderson aims to go to college to be a pediatric radiology technician. She will likely start this journey at Missouri Western University and then transfer to a larger medical program in Kansas City.

Henderson is the daughter of U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Lynn Henderson, the services manager of the 139th Services Flight, Missouri Air National Guard.
