Spotlight on Airmen: Aerospace Medical Services Craftsman Published March 7, 2015 By Capt. Rhonda Brown 139th Airlift Wing ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Coming from a family who is part of the 139th Airlift Wing, Tech. Sgt. Melinda Cheney joined the unit here at Rosecrans Air National Guard Base in 2005 and is currently an aerospace medical services craftsman. "I joined the unit because it is a family tradition," Cheney said. "I have two cousins, Senior Airman Jeff Cheney who works in the Firehouse and Senior Airman Jason Cheney who works in Security Forces, and my dad who is Lt. Col. Mark Cheney in the 139th Maintenance Group." Aerospace medical services craftsmen are responsible for supervising and managing patient care for Airmen. Cheney said the best part of her job is the customer service she can provide and getting to know people around the base. "I get to see and help everyone which is part of the mission," Cheney said. Several Airmen with various medical career fields make up the 139th Medical Group. "Joining was the best decision I've made," said Cheney. "When you join, you get a second family and we have each other's backs."
