A retirement ceremony was held for Col. Dave Halter, vice commander of the 139th Airlift Wing here March 7.

Halter retired with 30 years of military service and has logged over 6,100 flight hours as a navigator.

"He brought so much experience to the table," says Col. Ralph Schwader, commander of the 139th AW. "I'm sad to see him go."

Those working closely with Halter described him as being highly approachable, open and honest and an engaged listener known for being able to put people at ease.

"He is awesome," said executive assistant Tech. Sgt. Abby Pierce. "He brought a fantastic dynamic to our office."

Halter's wife, Jennifer, said it will be nice to have him home.

Halter is a St. Joseph native.
