Senior Airman Bruce Jenkins has figured how to actively engage both the logical and creative areas of his brain while working with the 139th Airlift Wing as a trained crew chief mechanic and an audio visual production specialist.

Jenkins enlisted with the 139th Airlift Wing in 2012 and was thrilled to learn a military trade as a traditional, weekend guardsman in the 139th Maintenance Office Control Center (MOCC), ensuring that the C-130H Hercules aircraft's maintenance logs are documented and maintenance is scheduled.

"My drive to join maintenance was to be able to work with my hands and learn a trade," said Jenkins.  He added that his goal is to maintain his knowledge of maintenance and become a private mechanic.

Not only is Jenkins keeping the C-130s maintained and ready for flight, but is putting his broadcasting background to the test as a temporary technician assignment in the public affairs office as an audio visual production specialist.

"I come from a broadcasting background," said Jenkins, who studied broadcasting at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo.

"This is something I've always wanted to do," said Jenkins. "I love the creative freedom and atmosphere of public affairs."

Jenkins said he has been given valuable advice to keep moving forward by those who have been in the military for years.
