Airmen help rebuild Boy Scout camp

RAYMOND, Maine --  Airmen from the 139th Airlift Wing are helping to rebuild a Boy Scout camp in Raymond, Maine.

The airmen are from the 139th Civil Engineer Squadron, commanded by Lt. Col. Tracy Beattie, and arrived at the camp for a two-week work rotation on May 22, 2016.

The squadron brings experience and a diverse talent pool to the on-going project, including carpentry, plumbing, engineering, electrical, pest management, and operations

They are joined by other service members from the U.S. Air Force, Marine Corps, and Navy. They are building a new 10,000 square foot dining facility at Camp William Hinds.

The operation is part of DoD's Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) which helps service members maintain their training while providing services to communities across the county.

Camp Hinds covers more than 300 acres on Panther Pond. It includes training facilities, shooting ranges, cabins, a rope course, climbing wall, and more. All of the planning, materials, and supplies for the new construction are contributed by local volunteers, companies, and organizations. The military brings in personnel with the skills and expertise to shape the donated resources into new buildings, roads, and other infrastructure.
