The Midland Chapter of the American Red Cross has been given a grant to provide health and safety training scholarships for family members of eligible service members or veterans.

This program is scheduled to run Jan. 1 through May 30, or until the allotted amount of grant money and people have been reached.

Eligible members include Active Duty, Reserve, Guard service components or those in veteran status. Eligible family members are defined as parent, spouse, child, sibling, grandparent, or verifiable significant other.

"There is plenty of grant money still available," said Ms. Jane Lackey, 139th Family Readiness coordinator, "The program is really just kicking off."

Classes are available in a scholarship status regardless if the family member is fulfilling a work requirement, or learning the skills for personal use.

Possible training options offered include Adult, Child & Infant CPR; Standard First Aid; Preventing Disease Transmission; and CPR/AED (Automated External Defibrillator).

A signed receipt will be obtained at the end of class from each participant acknowledging the grant and course completion.

Applications can be found on the base Intranet site. After completing the form, return it to Lackey.

Directions, facility contact information, other available classes as well as the Health & Safety class times are available at www.redcross-stjoseph.org
