Each year, the 139th Airlift Wing recognizes key volunteers from each squadron. This year, these volunteers were recognized January 8 at a special ceremony held at the Texas Road House in St. Joseph, MO. There were four appreciation and nine achievement volunteers who were recognized.

Key Volunteers are individuals that are assigned to squadrons within the Wing to represent guard members and their families.

"The volunteers are spouses of members of the Wing," said Ms. Jane Gabriel, Family Readiness Program Coordinator.

Volunteers are nominated by each squadron they represent. Commanders take each nominee into consideration and select one as the Key Volunteer of the Year.

"We look at the number or events a key volunteer participates in as well as the number of hours they volunteer," Gabriel said.

This year Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Matlack were recognized as the key volunteer of the year.
