Whitley receives promotion to chief master sergeant

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. --  Morcie Whitley, of Kansas City, Kan., was promoted to the rank of chief master sergeant during a ceremony March 4 at Rosecrans Air National Guard Base.

Whitley began her career in 1992 with the 139th as an administrative clerk, after serving in the Air Force Reserve Command for nearly four years. Since then, she has worked in transportation, logistics readiness and is currently the Wing's Human Resource Advisor.

"Chief Whitley is a great motivator and has always been an asset," said Chief Master Sgt. Gaila Sullivan, command chief.

The 139th is a place where everybody makes you feel welcomed and is willing to help you succeed, explained Whitley.

In addition to her work with various community and youth programs, Whitley is a member of the Wing's Special Needs Group and serves as an active volunteer and tutor to young adults as they prepare for their future.

"I mentor others because I like to give back," said Whitley. "I will continue to help Airmen to grow into leaders of the future."

Whitley believes in people as well as their abilities to succeed and will assist you in any way she can, said Sullivan.

During the ceremony, Whitley was joined by her two sons, Curtis and Rodney as well as and her brother, Lester, and his family.
