This month’s Tidbit will follow-up on last month’s focus on income tax filing. Many of you could have experienced notable changes in income, deductions, etc., so please note the tax filing items I suggest. Additionally, by the time you receive this Tidbit many of you should have received your Economic Impact Payments if eligible. As always, contact me with any additional questions. Filing Date for 2020 Has Been Extended, But Be Careful!
IR-2021-59, March 17, 2021

WASHINGTON — The Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service announced today that the federal income tax filing due date for individuals for the 2020 tax year will be automatically extended from April 15, to May 17, 2021. The IRS will be providing formal guidance in the coming days.

With All the Press About Changes, Be Aware of Scams!

Thousands of people have lost millions of dollars and their personal information to tax scams. Scammers use the regular mail, telephone, or email to set up individuals, businesses, payroll and tax professionals. The IRS doesn't initiate contact with taxpayers by email, text messages or social media channels to request personal or financial information. Recognize the telltale signs of a scam.

Tax Year 2020 Version of Publication 3, Armed Forces Tax Guide Is Available!

Publication 3 covers the special tax situations of active members of the U.S. Armed Forces. It does not cover military pensions or veteran benefits, or give the basic tax rules that apply to all taxpayers.
