ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Members of the 139th Services Flight, who feed over 1,000 men and women of the 139th Airlift Wing, were evaluated during March drill for a chance to win the coveted Air National Guard Senior Master Sgt. Kenneth W. Disney award.
“The team has pulled together and everyone is putting forth 110%,” said Staff Sgt. Jamal Glasper, 139th Services Flight services specialist. He said the team is eager and ready to go.
The ANG Kenneth W. Disney Award program was incepted in 2000 and was established to promote excellence in guest service and meal quality, inspire high morale, motivation, mission support, and a professional image through pride and spirited competition.
“Our airmen strive hard to be the best of the best,” said Glasper. “To win this award would mean a lot to Services.”
The evaluation team consisted of members from the National Restaurant Association the ANG services career field manager. This team observed and graded the interaction of the services flight, how they operated and functioned as a unit, and culinary skills.
“They are already at the top of their game by being selected as one of the two Air National Guard units being evaluated,” said Mr. David Richmond, executive chef from the National Restaurant Association’s Education Foundation.
“We are looking for the extra nudge that makes them stand out from the other unit selected,” said Richmond.
Senior Master Sgt. Kenneth W. Disney served as the services superintendent at McGhee Tyson ANG Base, Knoxville, Tenn., for more than 20 years and was recognized for his outstanding managerial skills and commitment to providing excellent food service at McGhee Tyson.
This is the first time the 139th Airlift Wing has competed for the award.
