ROSECRANS AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Mo. -- Airmen of the 139th Airlift Wing, Missouri Air National Guard, will participate in an operational readiness assessment (ORA) here November 1-7, 2019. The bulk of the training will take place at Fort Riley, Kansas, during a 24 hour period. The purpose of the exercise is for Airmen to achieve full spectrum readiness.
Col. Ed Black, 139th commander, was looking for a better way for the wing to accomplish warfighter training versus the typical computer based training. The wing’s leadership team decided to stand up an ORA they named Operation Chiseled Warfighter. An ORA is a full scale exercise conducted off station to increase wartime effectiveness through training while testing leadership characteristics, team building, and improving morale.
This ORA will simulate a deployment to exercise the full mobilization capability of the 139th. Wing personnel will achieve full spectrum readiness for global deployment by completing deployment processing, train in expeditionary skills, combat tactics, and war survivability while testing squadron level leadership abilities during a mentally and physically demanding wartime scenario.
During this ORA, airmen will rotate through training stations that will incorporate skills that will prepare them for deployments such as Self-Aid and Buddy Care (SABC), CBRN Defense, and Convoy Operations.
