Job Title/AFSC: Materiel Management

Civilian life: Having just returned from 30-days of technical school in San Antonio, Texas, Black is currently on seasoning days with her unit. Seasoning days allow members who just returned from tech school to perform some additional training at their unit in active duty status.

In the fall she will begin college at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, majoring in agricultural science.

Why did you join the Guard?

“I always watched documentaries about the military and thought that, that was something I would enjoy.”

Joining the military was something Black always wanted to do, but the college benefits were also something that couldn’t be ignored for her.

“It was like the best of both worlds. I can do something I want to do, and then go to school as well.”

Black said she is planning on staying in the military as long as she can. “I’m really enjoying what I’m doing and who I get to work with.”
