U.S Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Dawn Bickford, the material management superintendent with the 139th Logistics Readiness Squadron, Missouri Air National Guard, was named the 2018 Outstanding Airman of the Year in the senior noncommissioned officer category on Jan. 3, 2019.

“This has been a very humbling experience,” Bickford said. “My secret to success is that I lead with a take-charge attitude. I am straight-forward and don’t sugar coat things.”

Bickford joined the Missouri Air National Guard in 1997. She joined because her aunt was in the unit.

“There was a cool opportunity out here, as well as a family atmosphere,” Bickford said.

In her civilian career, she is a school counselor with the Weeping Waters School District in Nebraska and loves spending time with her son.
