Tech. Sgt. Brently Johnson of the 241st Air Traffic Control Squadron insists he wasn't trying to win any awards.

"I just honestly try to do my job the best I can, that's all," he said of being named the 2008 Air Traffic Control and Landing Systems (ATCALS) NCO of the Year for the Air National Guard.

But Johnson, a full-time technician with the 241st, is a deserving recipient, according to his leadership.

"Brent is a dedicated RADAR maintainer," said Capt. John Howie, 241st ATC commander. "It is due to his talent and supervision of the entire maintenance team that the MPN-14K1 RADAR system at St. Joseph stays at a 95 percent reliability rate."

Johnson came to the 241st in 2005 from the South Carolina Air National Guard, specifically to have the opportunity to work with Chief Master Sgt. Dennis Albano.

"I never want to let Chief Albano down," Johnson said. "(Albano) is a legend in this career field. I wanted to work with the best, because I believe that if you want to be the best, you have to work with the best."
