ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Aircrews from the Missouri Air National Guard’s 139th Airlift Wing will fly over medical facilities in the Northwest Missouri region on Wednesday, May 6, 2020, as a show of solidarity in support of healthcare workers and all essential employees who are helping to combat COVID-19.
The flyover will consist of two C-130 Hercules cargo aircraft based at Rosecrans Air National Guard Base. The aircrews will fly over medical facilities in the following order starting at noon: Atchison Hospital, St. Luke's North Hospital Smithville and Barry Road, North Kansas City Hospital, Liberty Hospital, Cameron Regional Medical Center, and Mosaic Medical Center - St. Joseph.
“The healthcare workers, first responders and essential personnel are the true heroes in this fight,” said Lt. Col. Greg Hay, commander of the 139th Operations Group. “It’s a privilege to perform this flyover and honor them for their service and sacrifice during these unprecedented times.”
Residents should observe the flyover from the safety of their home and should refrain from traveling to see the flyover. Residents should also maintain social distancing and avoid large gatherings.
The flyover comes at no additional cost to the unit. Aircrews are required to maintain a routine flying schedule in order to stay current with their training requirements.
The 139th Airlift Wing is a unit of the Missouri National Guard and is located at Rosecrans Memorial Airport. The unit consists of 1,200 Airmen and women from the surrounding community and supports a dual mission to the state of Missouri and the federal government.
