ST. JOSEPH, Mo. --

It’s a special time of year for the Jewish and Christian communities.  The Jewish community is celebrating Passover and the Christians Holy Week.  I imagine the mood this year is a little different than recent years.

The inability to celebrate with one another as we have before, either with our religious community or families, continues to take a toll on people.  However, the fact that we cannot celebrate together does not change the reason behind the celebration.  Passover celebrates the Exodus, the freedom from slavery of the Israelites from Ancient Egypt and Holy Week celebrates the death and resurrection of Jesus and new life for Christians. History has proven that hard times tend to bring about positive outcomes.

Sometimes we have to go through trying times to get to something better.  We don’t really know what the next few days, weeks or even months hold for us.  The assurance that we have is that God is still in control and whenever we go through rough times we can look for the greater things to come.

Passover and Easter are great reminders of God’s love and protection in our lives and proof that we need to look to see what amazing things will happen when the pandemic is over.  While we may not be able to celebrate as we have before, we should continue to celebrate and perhaps celebrate like never before.
