The Air National Guard recently recognized the 139th Operations Group here as recipient of the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.

Each year the Air Guard selects its top units for the recognition from more than 88 flying wings and 200 geographically separated units throughout the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands.

"The dedication and commitment of the members of these organizations enable the Air National Guard to fulfill its commitment to the missions of peacekeeping, humanitarian relief, domestic improvement and, most important of all, defense of America," Lt. Gen. Harry M. Wyatt III, Air Guard director, stated in his award announcement. "My congratulations [go out] to the best of the best."

The 139th Operations Group was selected for its meritorious service from May 2009 to June 2011.

The Group's wide-range of accomplishments includes numerous missions worldwide for federal service as well as for state service across Missouri and the nation. Leaders also highlighted an overabundance of community involvement that Airmen took part in through their volunteerism, emergency support and other actions. Also of note was the Group's consistent top performance in inspections, exercises and readiness evaluations.
